I think 7 years, with a lot of good, focused practicing, is probably a good guess for how long it takes for a good student to become an accomplished intermediate student who plays level 4 ASTA pieces well. That would be a guess for students who show promise. Some might work through the materials faster than that, in even 4 years if they had a strong musical background or strong ability. But I would guess that the average person of solid musical ability, with the hard work of practice, would be comfortable in level 4 in 7 years.
