I'll be waiting for them to invent sampling and FM synthesis again before jumping in. They could also work closer with Fisher Price and make something like this but in many different colors and with an analog filter thrown in Seems the Monotron delay fx appears to be processing the Monotribe through its ext input:. I wish the duo had selectable waveforms and something of an LFO..
It seems to just have 2 square waves for now. Oh well.. Spectral Climax. Oh please Korg! The Monotron just became more valuable- analog filter AND delay??? Forget the crappy micro keyboard and oscillator with the latter being practically useless for melodic stuff if you cannot control it with CV or midi out of the box. This thing is going to be an awesome little analog processing machine! Hooking the iPad up to this is going to be fun! Wait, so it's obviously not a tape delay Its obvious what they are doing.
Creating a market through cheap profitable devices. Once the market is big enough, they will release the big synths. They make lots of individual synth components, then when they have enough, they fliter them 'up' all together to create some super synth! Cool I guess, but I really hope this leads to bigger and better things, its hard for me to get excited about something so limited. I feel like this signals that the monotribe didn't do very well, maybe it hasn't been out long enough to see, but the monotron is cheap enough and good enough and was successful enough for korg to expand on the concept.
Kinda sucks that you lose the LFO on the duo and lose resonance on the delay. They remind me of matchbox cars. Add a dash of spring reverb for atmosphere and its electronic tones get closer to my EMS Synthi than a pile of posh digital synths! Through studio monitors or a large PA , the bass end is quite impressive and the filter screams like a possessed kettle, its resonance breaking up in that distinctive 'Korg MS' way.
On stage or in the studio, I'd always recommend extra distortion, courtesy of as many guitar pedals as you can get your hands on. Though the Monotron looks like a simple piece of kit, it has surprising potential when used in inventive ways. An easy way to experiment with the sounds available from your Korg Monotron is to pile on the effects with different guitar pedals.
But let's not get too carried away. If it's tunes you're hoping for, that's going to take some work, and preferably external help, such as a sampler. Personally, I ignore the keyboard markings on the ribbon, finding the correct pitch entirely by ear. The ribbon's range is only slightly above one octave, so to squeeze out a fraction more, turn the tiny screw at the rear as far as it will go. When your thumb gets tired, you should try the Monotron's second trick: being an audio processor.
Once I've recorded a chunk of that, I go back through the results, slicing out shorter loops that contain something appealing, discarding the rest. Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator Modular Teenage Engineering PO robot. Teenage Engineering PO rhythm. Rate now. A very trippy toy with serious potential. Report Do you believe this rating to be inaccurate or unacceptable for some reason?
Please give us the reason for your assessment in the following text box and — if possible — your e-mail address for further questions. This little portable unit is a lot of fun. I use it as a simple synth for sound effects, and as a simple delay effect with my mike. For the price, it's quite useful. Also suitable as a toy.
A small device with great sond and possibilities. Its analog. The delay and filter sound very good. The Soundgenerator lets you generate the psy sweeps as well as the classic dub siren telephone sound :D Also can use it to create bass samples.
Or just noisify some audio or use as a filder device. Fun and usable! Very fun. This is great fun to mess around with either on its own or with a synth. Only issues are: It has a plastic feel to it but still feels reasonably sturdy. This is to be expected though, given the price tag. It can also sound a little white noisey at times depending on what you are going to do with it. It would be great if it didn't this problem but I'm sure it can be somewhat eq'd out if necessary.
This can also be a good thing though if you are after something more lofi. On the plus side I would have to say that it can be great fun and very easy to use.
